Italian Magnetic Network and Geomagnetic Field Maps of Italy at year 2020.0

The updated Geomagnetic Field Maps of Italy are the result of the collaboration between the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) and the Istituto Geografico Militare (IGM) based on a measurement campaign on 72 repeat stations of the Italian Magnetic Network.

This paper presents the details of the network, the measurement procedures and the data reduction at 02UT on the measurement day and subsequently at epoch 2020.0.

Moreover, the coefficients for normal fields were determined for all data, in order to create the new maps at scale 1: 2 000 000 at epoch 2020.0 for each geomagnetic component (D, H, Z and the total field F). Attached to this paper there are the 4 magnetic maps of Italy

Finally, the GMF_2020 software provides the values of the geomagnetic components for all the Italian territory, as a function of position and date of interest.
