The Commander

Major General Luigi POSTIGLIONE was born in NAPLES on 7th September 1971.
He attended the Military Academy (171st "Fede" course) in MODENA and the Application School of the Army, in TURIN.
He was appointed Engineer Officer in 1991. He carried out his training period at the 6th Engineer Regiment in ROME in 1993 and then he was assigned to the 1st Engineer Battalion in Castel Maggiore (BOLOGNA), where he held the positions of Platoon and Company Commander from 1994 to 2003. During that period he participated in missions in BOSNIA (SFOR-1998) and KOSOVO (KFOR-2000), supervising and coordinating the restoration of the railway network. After coming back from KOSOVO, he took part in survey activities in Eritrea at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to plan the final stretch of the Massawa–Tessenet railway line.
In 2001, he attended the 128th General Staff Course and the Multi-thematic Course in TURIN. In 2002, he attended the Advanced Infrastructure Course in ROME. From 2003 to 2008, he was assigned to the Infrastructure Command Center in Florence, where he served as Head of Design and Revision Section. During that period (2003-2004) he took part in the ISAF mission in AFGHANISTAN and contributed to the construction of a worship place for the Italian contingent as well as the construction of several infrastructure works also to the benefit of the local population.
In 2007, he attended the 10th Advanced Joint Staff Course at the Centre for High Defence Studies in ROME, at the end of which (2008) he was assigned as Officer in charge at the Army General Staff - IV Department-Infrastructure Office.
From 2011 to 2012, he was Commander of the Railway Engineers Battalion, intervening in favor of the population affected by the earthquake in Emilia Romagna and holding the position of Operations Room Chief during the “Strade Sicure” Regiment’s Operation.
From 2013 to 2015, he was Head of the State Property Section of the Logistics and Infrastructure Department of the Defense General Staff. As Colonel, he was appointed Commander of the Engineer Rail Regiment in Castel Maggiore (BOLOGNA) and in 2016, he attended the US Army War College in Carlisle (PA – USA).
In 2017, he served as Head of the Infrastructure Department’s Work Office of the Army General Staff until 2020. During this period (namely in 2019) he attended the IASD course at the Centre for High Defence Studies in ROME.
As Brigadier General in 2020, he was appointed 1st Commander of the Engineer Brigade contributing to the establishment of the new Grand Specialty Unit. From October 2021 to June 2024 he was Head of the Infrastructure Department of the Army General Staff.
As of January 1st, 2023 he holds the rank of Major General.
Since July 1st 2024, he is the Commander of the Italian Military Geographic Institute.

Major General Luigi POSTIGLIONE is married to Mrs. Angela and they have a daughter, Sveva Isabella.
