Free guided tours: admission and opening hours

Guided tours: admission and opening hours

Free entrance and group guided tours in Italian, available upon reservation. You can visit the Library and the Museum of Instruments, which are part of the Historical Museum of Italian Cartography, both located inside the IGMI historical building in Florence - via Cesare Battisti 10, open from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m-12 p.m.

Upon request, students attending secondary technical schools and/or researchers in the geographic sector can enjoy a free visit to the production departments.

IGMI Library’s collections are available for consulting, reading, borrowing  and reproducing without reservation. You just have to go to the reception desk - via Cesare Battisti 10, from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Reach us

  • By train: Easy access from both Florence train stations: Santa Maria Novella and Campo di Marte
  • 15 minutes walking from  Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station, or alternatively you can get a bus  (stop at  piazza S. Marco, 5 minutes bus ride).
  • By bus from Firenze Campo di Marte train station (stop at  piazza S. Marco, 10 minutes bus ride).

Historical Museum of Italian Cartography

The IGMI Historical Museum of Italian Cartography hosts a valuable  collection of the instruments used to carry out works of astronomy, geodesy, topography, photogrammetry and calculation.

The Library

The library was created on 1865. The Library's collections include around 120.000 books, along with ancient manuscripts and historical maps dating back as far as the XVI century.
